First St. Streetscape | Napa, California
Napa Streetscape Improvements | City of Napa
The City of Napa requested a Design-Build to improve the streetscape of First Street. As this was a partnership with the City, many of the visual aspects of the streetscape, such as artwork, benches and signs, were removed and later installed by the City.
Throughout the weeks leading to the demolition, our project manager worked with each of the First Street shopkeepers to answer any questions and foster relationships and understanding during the necessary, but invasive, project; this emphasis on community helped maintain a good relationship with the shopkeepers and allowed the work to run smoothly.
Once this was accomplished, the sidewalks were demolished from the street up to the entry of each storefront and the work began. The crews worked around the clock to ensure the project would be completed before the Memorial Day weekend, while maintaining access to the stores. Old utilities were updated and new utilities were installed before the concrete forms were placed. Once the forms were in place, the concrete was poured with brick detail throughout the walkways. As the signs and benches were replaced, trees were planted alongside the street, in time for the streetscape on First Street to welcome Memorial Day visitors.
